Over the weekend, FDA Commissioner Robert M. Califf tested positive for COVID-19 while traveling on official agency business. FDA said he is up-to-date on vaccines against COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms. 

In its weekly FluView summary released on Friday, the CDC reported that the percentage of clinical laboratory isolates positive for influenza has reached 9.0% and that the A(H3N2) strain was most common (see chart below). The cumulative hospitalization rate of 2.9 per 100,000 is the highest figure at this point in the influenza season (week 43 of the calendar year) since the 2010–2011 season. As shown in the below U.S. map, regions 4 (southeast) and 6 (southcentral) are reporting the highest levels of flu activity, followed by regions 3 (mid-Atlantic) and 9 (southcentral West Coast).
