Vaccine Role in Ending SARS-CoV-2 Wave

In Israel during the first 2021 alpha variant wave of SARS-CoV-2 infections, increased vaccinations played a major role in ending viral spread, researchers report. Analysis of daily percentages of new PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases among unvaccinated individuals showed a first decline among unvaccinated individuals occurred during a lockdown period when the percentage of natural and active vaccination (NAV) was 8.16%. A major decline followed the end of the lockdown as the NAV figure reached 52.05%, “indicating that the vaccination campaign had a major role in the sustainable decline that started at this time point,” the authors write. Cases began declining among unvaccinated individuals when the NAV percentage was 63.55%.
